Rajesh Kumar Maravi is a folk artist who plays Gudum Baja in a troupe of tribal artists. Rajesh belongs to Dhulia tribe in Dindori , Madhya Pradesh. He told us that they normally play this Gudum Baja whenever there is some family function and at times this dance form is used to revere local deities like Bade Dev and Shesh Nag.
Gudum Baja is a drum tied to their waists over a decorated belt. Rajesh Kumar Maravi has performed in various cultural festivals of India. The original performance of this folk form really makes the audience enthralled by their tremendous energy.
The unique part is that that they do this folk dance when there is happiness, like at the time of marriage or child birth and also on some sad moments when some members die. The energy of their dance really creates thrill among the audience during their performance. Rajesh Kumar Maravi along with his troupe wants to spread their rare folk dance.
