Pandit Ram Dayal Sharma is a famous singer, composer, actor, writer, director, and music teacher. He is a living legend of Swang, Bhagat, Nautanki, Rasiya, and Raaslila folk traditions of north India.

Panditji has won numerous awards and citations for his work. In 2015, he wasawarded the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Nautanki by the President of India. Panditj has also been active in film and mass media as part of his efforts to raise awareness of folk theatre.

For instance, he co-composed a musical score with B.V. Karanth for Prema Karnath’s film in which he also played the lead role and did playback singing. He composed music and did playback singing for films such as Tadak dham (directed by Ramesh Sharma,Kaun (directed by Ajay Sharma), and two telefilms (by Ashok Chakradhar), among others. He is also a regular broadcaster on India’s National Radio and T.V. channels).

In addition, his musical and theatrical compositions have been performed in: Japan; Germany; Bulgaria; Korea;Thailand; Norway; and Moscow, Russia. His musical composition “Kalpana” was chosen to represent India for a UNICEF Award.

Panditji is the chairman of Brij Lok Madhuri, a non-governmental organization devoted to the promotion of India’s folk performance arts.
