Dr Tara Douglas is a cultural researcher and a film-maker with experience and skills ranging from 3D computer generated animation to experimental techniques of stop-motion animation, in which characters and sets are made in miniature down to the smallest details, using all different kinds of materials and plenty of inventiveness. They are then animated frame by frame under the camera.

She is Secretary of Adivasi Art Trust, a charity based in UK. The aim of the Trust is to promote and preserve Indian indigenous and tribal art, culture and storytelling through animation and other digital media formats. The Adivasi Arts Trust was the winner of the ENGO award in Heritage and Culture 2017.

Tara Douglas is also a Trustee of the Trust for Tribal Art Culture and Knowledge (Delhi).

Tara Douglas works with tribal communities to research their cultures and traditional knowledge and then to make it accessible to wider audiences through her animated films. She completed a practice-led PhD in 2016, in Digital Media, with the project titled Tales of the Tribes: Animation as a Tool for Indigenous Representation at Bournemouth University. Tara has arranged many programmes through the Adivasi Arts Trust for Indian tribal artists, in India and abroad. These include painting exhibitions and workshops, photographic exhibitions, seminars, and other multimedia art projects.

In the work to sustain indigenous stories, Tara regularly organises workshops in various schools and institutions. She has directed and produced a 52 minute long documentary film for Doordarshan titled The Journey of the Tales of the Tribes, and she is presently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Anthropology at North Eastern Hill University in Shillong, Meghalaya, where she is working on her research and media project, The Stories of Our Ancestors, with the Wancho and Tangkhul communities of North East India. She is also developing an animated folktale from the stories of the Andamanese people.
