Amrita Dutta Mazumdar – Classical Singer (Banaras Gharana)

Amrita was born in Silchar, a small town in Assam lashed by green valley of Borail Range. Amrita does not belong to any musician family, though his father was into chemical business but music was an integral part in their family. Amrita’s parents usually took her to the musical concert where she remembered listening to Pandit Jasraj, Pandit Ajay Chakraborty and Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia.

One day when Amrita was hardly 9 years old his father heard her humming and realised the hidden talent in her daughter. Finally his father decided to give her traditional training in music and took Amrita to Pramita Nandi who was her first Guru. Later after few years eminent musician Pandit Dinanath Mishra heard Amrita’s singing and advised Pramita Nandi that she should pursue music as her career.

Amrita was lucky that her family supported her and finally she got enrolled in Ravindra Bharti University in Kolkata and simultaneously started learning from Pandit Dinanath Mishra. Amrita was fortunate to get intense training in Hindustani Classical music by eminent vocalist Pandit Bholanath Mishra from Banaras Gharana and later complete her PhD in music from Delhi University.

Amrita has performed in almost all prestigious auditoriums across India. Well known Sitar Vadak Prateek Chaoudhary was her guide and mentor who brought best out of her as a musician. Amrita Mazumdar is blessed with melodious voice rich in texture. The divine and spiritual approach in her gayaki with all the emotive beauty has always won the hearts of her audience and music lovers.
