TRADIONAL ARTISAN OF APPLIQUE WORK (KAMLA AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN CRAFTSMANSHIP)

Appliqué is an ornamental needlework in which pieces of fabric in different shapes and patterns are sewn or stuck on to a larger piece to form a pattern.
Kartik Chauhan inherited the ancient appliqué art from his parents, especially his father Hirabhai Chauhan and mother Laxmiben in his childhood. Kartik is from the original weaver caste community. He has come a long way in keeping this craft alive and in providing employment to its local artisans. Kartik along with his team is training low income group women in the craft and have been able to help 1200 – 1500 women across four clusters including Jamnagar, Baroda, Rajkot, Amreli, Gadhinagar & Ahmedabad.
Kartik as an artisan says, live life easy with handmade craft. Kartik has participated in IFFA in the USA and visited many countries for his workshops. He has worked with renowned fashion designers.
He has been honored for Kamala Award for Excellence in Craftsmanship for the year 2019 by the Craft Council of India and still continues to do magnificent appliqué work
