TRADITIONAL BRASS WARE ARTISAN
(SHILP GURU, NATIONAL AWARD WINNER)
Profile of Artist:
The 65-year-old craftsman belongs to the over 25,000 small and household units supporting the brassware industry in the town of Moradabad, which contributes some 80 percent of India’s brassware products.
What sets Dilshad apart from his peers is his willingness and eagerness to turn away from age-old and time, practices to adapt to the modern methods in tune with contemporary market needs.
His first move was to arrange his implements methodically as much time was wasted in sorting tools out. Similarly, he provided racks for different brass artifacts so that they could be easily procured on demand.
Stacked neatly in piles according to their sizes and placed on shelves running across the walls of his small workshop are the prized tools that Dilshad uses to carve out his creations in brass.
Dilshad Hussain has trained several youngsters keen to learn the craft which he learnt from his grandfather and feels proud to continue the legacy of his forefathers.
