TRADITIONAL TAMASHA AND THRETRE ARTIST

Profile of Artist:

Dilip Bhatt has followed the footsteps of his father Shri Gopi Bhatt, known for Tamasha, a unique and popular theatre form. He started learning this form in his childhood and over the years has given it a new identity.

The Tamasha art was born in the time of Raja Ram Singh of Jaipur and was protected and promoted by the royal family. But with time, the tradition has reached on the verge of extinction with artists no more interested in the art of tamasha. The play is being organized by the parampara Natya samiti of the Bhatt family. Bhatt family is striving to save the 250 years old art of tamasha in Jaipur.

One of the famous Tamasha of Jaipur is 'Gopichand Bharthari'. It was the tale of king Bharthari, who wants to become Saint and told his family why he was becoming saint.

After the death of Late Shri Gopi Bhatt Ji, who was the promoter of this art, his son Dilip Bhatt took part in this play. Tamasha is a famous tradition of Jaipur in which the classical ranges are used in playing the character of the story on stage.

Dilip, while developing his inherited legacy further, has integrated 3000 young artists to Nukkad, Tamasha and contemporary theatre, and has established its identity by staging Agnipariksha beyond the borders (in England in 2010).

Recipient of various honours, Dilip Bhatt regularly stages theatre performances in Jaipur.
