Internationally acclaimed Artist Gopal Prasad Sharma from Rajasthan traces his ancestry to one such family of court artists and masons from Bijolia, which was a part of the former state of Mewar. The community of various artists evolved under the patronage of royal families of Raja and Maharajas of that time.
Kanhaiya Lal Sharma was his Guru who taught him the basic principles of art. But unlike his father, who was versed in the family tradition of wall art, Gopal Prasad Sharma found his calling in miniature paintings instead.
He worked and researched intensely on the various styles of miniature paintings prevalent in Rajasthan, which not only enabled him to become proficient in each style but also innovate and create a blend of the various styles that was more refined, unique and his very own. Gopal ji , is one of the most talented artist who has been finally honoured by one of the most prestigious award of SHILP GURU 2020.
World’s Biggest Miniature work and Only Ram Darbar is made by Gopal Prasad Sharma , in which there are 500 different character are painted. It took more than 5 years to complete. Gopal ji have passed on this artistic skill to his son Abhishek and daughter Neha Sharma- a state award winner.
PhD students are now doing their research on miniature master crafts person’s paintings. The artistic journey of passionate Gopal Prasad Sharma continues, he is right now working on Ramayan Historical Paintings, till now 8 paintings are prepared. This is also a unique and one of the rarest creation.
