Jeeva Nand- Traditional Weaver of Kullu Shawl

Jeeva Nand has been given National Merit Certificate for his unique and outstanding contribution to his handloom weaving of Kullu Shawl. He picked up this skill at very tender age. Unfortunately he lost his father when was hardly two years old, due to family circumstances he had to discontinue his education after eight standard.

Jeeva Nand started working as a labourer and soon learned the art of weaving wollen Shawls from his elder brother Shri Ram Singh. Jeeva Nand had seven brothers all worked hard to run their house. Initially he went to other states to continue his work. Later he came back to his village and trained around 50 weavers and provided them employment. Till today Jeeva Nand has trained more than 300 people and supported his villagers in employment generation.

The passion for his traditional weaving and his continuous hard work has taken him to a prominent position. Now Jeeva Nand is on the post of Vice President of Himbunkar HP State Handicraft Corporation of Mandi Zone.
