Profile of Artist:
Sambhaw Singh Shyam is a Gond tribal artist who began practicing this art at the age of 12, while assisting his mother. Initially he was inspired by his father and mother’s creation but gradually he evolved his own style. The motif “r” resembling the flying bird is a common motif in his art work. It is a metaphor to keep the spirit flying, without feeling low at hard times. Sambhaw loves nature and this is visible in his paintings, he believes that greenery is important whether it’s rural or urban area. Trees are an integral part of human beings.
Shambhaw creates happy art which depicts animals, trees and birds all live together in harmony and peace. He is painting this gond art form since more than 2 decades and continues to do so, as Sambhaw wants to preserve the originality and identity of this unique and traditional art.
